After making its debut as a brand-new model for 2013, the Chevrolet Malibu will look to build its marketplace momentum with a significant refresh for the next selling season. That was immediately apparent when the 2014 Chevy Malibu made its first public appearance recently in Detroit, where Mark Reuss, president of GM North America, reported that: “The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu builds on the strengths established by the all-new 2013 Malibu to make it a stronger choice for customers. The midsize sedan segment is the most contested in the industry and we’re not sitting still with the 2014 Chevrolet Malibu.”
Instead, owners will be sitting pretty, thanks to upgrades that include:
  • A new 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with standard variable valve-lift control and start-stop technology, good for an estimated 5 percent bump in city mileage, a 3 percent lift on the highway and an expected 23 mpg city/35 mpg highway
  • 14 percent more torque from its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, now packing 295 lb.-ft. of twist (and 259 horsepower)
  • A restyled front end inspired by the look of the all-new 2014 Chevy Impala and showcasing reshaped upper and lower grilles with wider, chrome-accented openings
  • Expanded rear-seat cabin room, highlighted by an additional 1.25 inches of rear knee room and resculpted seat cushions
  • Available side blind zone alert and rear cross traffic alert
Also notable are significant changes to the suspension of the 2014 Chevy Malibu. As explained by Ken Kelzer, executive chief engineer for GM’s global full-size and midsize cars: “The 2014 Malibu has been engineered to deliver more precise ride and handling that is on par with more expensive sports sedans.”
The 2014 Chevrolet Malibu is slated to arrive in local dealerships this fall.
