2014 Corvette: The Stingray Resurfaces
“Like the ’63 Sting Ray, the best Corvettes embodied performance leadership, delivering cutting-edge technologies, breathtaking design and awe-inspiring driving experiences,” said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors North America. “The all-new Corvette goes farther than ever, thanks to today’s advancements in design, technology and engineering.”
It will go faster than ever, too; in fact, the seventh-generation supercar will be the fastest, most powerful standard Corvette ever, thanks to its cutting-edge V8 engine that will transform 450 horses and a like number of lb.-ft. of torque into a 0-60 time of less than 4 seconds. Yet, since that powerplant relies on technologies like direct injection, cylinder-deactivation, continuously variable valve timing and an upgraded combustion system—and a seven-speed manual transmission—the 2014 Stingray also will be the most fuel-efficient Corvette ever, with the ability to reach at least 26 mpg.
Also new for the new Corvette Stingray, which is slated to go on sale in the third quarter of the year:
- A premium interior featuring carbon fiber, aluminum and hand-wrapped leather trim, along with dual eight-inch display screens
- Two available seat designs, both with highly supportive and lightweight magnesium frames
- The Drive Mode Selector system, capable of custom tuning 12 different vehicle characteristics to realize five separate performance-driving modes
- Lightweight construction that complements an aluminum frame with a carbon-fiber removable roof panel; composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels; and underbody panels made from a carbon-nano composite materials
- A sculpted and aerodynamic exterior that evolves Corvette design in a more aggressive direction
