For many years it seemed liked American car buyers had trouble warming up to hatchbacks. But that certainly isn’t true today as many hatchbacks have found success in the U.S. And as a result, it may be perfect timing for General Motors to unveil a new hatchback of its own at the Geneva Motor Show, the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback.
While hatchbacks are catching on Stateside, this new model is still geared toward European car buyers. Nearly 65 percent of all compact sales in Europe are hatchbacks, according to GM.
The Cruze Hatchback is slated to go on sale later this year and it features a 60/40 split rear seat and around 14 cubic feet of cargo space.
With the additional of the hatchback model, GM is confident that it will offer an even more attractive package to buyers. Already, the Cruze has exceeded forecasts to become the brand’s best-selling passenger car.
