2013 Chevy Corvette 427 With Video

Chevy Unchains a New Corvette 427 Convertible

by Chevrolet in the News on January 20, 2012
Consider it the ultimate example of automotive sibling rivalry: Shortly after the announcement of the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Convertible—destined to set new performance benchmarks for a Camaro drop-top—big brother is answering with the fastest, most capable convertible Corvette to ever come down the production line: The 2013 Chevy Corvette 427 Convertible.
It’s a reincarnation of a classic that also celebrates some notable landmarks for Corvette.
“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history—the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”
For the metrically inclined, that means the latest Corvette gets a 7.0-liter heart transplant, with the donor being the hi-po Corvette Z06. And keep in mind: This hand-built LS7 engine pumps out 505 hp and 470 lb.-ft. of torque. Installed in the 427 Convertible, the results include a 0-60 time of 3.8 seconds, a quarter-mile time of 11.8 seconds and top speed north of 190 mph. Lateral acceleration is an impressive 1.04 g.
The only choice in transmission is a six-speed manual, but there is one unique option available car’s powertrain: Corvette 427 Convertible owners can enjoy the Corvette Build Experience, in which they travel to GM’s Performance Build Center in Wixom, Mich., to assemble their car’s engine themselves.
Also included are other core elements drawn from the high end of the current Corvette lineup, like the driveline and rear axle system of the Z06, ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires wrapped around the lightweight, machine-faced wheels that debuted on the 2012 Z06, standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control—one of the fastest-reacting suspension enhancers in the world—and plenty of carbon fiber body work.
In fact, thanks to a carbon-fiber raised hood, Z06-style fenders and floor panels, with an available carbon-fiber front splitter and rocker panels that are standard on the 60th Anniversary package, the 427 Convertible weighs a mere 3,355 lbs. That’s good for a power-to-weight ratio of 6.64 (each horsepower is driving 6.64 lbs. of Corvette) and good enough to beat drop-tops such as the Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet, Audi R8 5.2 RSI Spyder, Aston Martin DBS Volante Convertible and Ferrari California Convertible.
The rest of the new 60th Anniversary package, which will be available on all 2013 Corvette models, adds an Arctic White exterior/Blue Diamond interior, a cabin swathed in leather and suede, a ZR1-style rear spoiler, 60th Anniversary badging and logos, gray-painted brake calipers and, for convertible models, a blue top. Chevy also will offer a graphics upgrade to the package for further flair, courtesy of full-length Pearl Silver Blue racing stripes, including, for convertibles, a stripe stitched right into the top.
Both the Corvette 427 Convertible and the 60th Anniversary package are set to reach dealers this summer.

New Sonic RS Is The Hot New Hatch Zeigler Chevrolet

Sonic RS: Chevy Cooks up a New Hot Hatch

by Chevrolet in the News on December 19, 2011
Chevy’s growing expertise in developing high-quality small cars that people love to drive will expand yet further in January, when the brand introduces the new 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS. Engineered to be a true enthusiast’s car—and packing an enthusiastic turbocharged I4 engine—the Sonic RS will make its public debut in Detroit next month at the North American International Auto Show. Which makes sense, since the sharp new Chevy is based on the Aveo RS concept that debuted at the Detroit auto show last year.
“The Sonic RS remains true to the progressive spirit of the concept and brings an unmistakable attitude to the segment,” said John Mack, design director for the Sonic. “From every angle and every touch point, it is a car that is unabashed in its performance statement—and one that drives Chevrolet’s performance legacy into its second century.”
Putting the exclamation point on that statement: A powertrain that truly lives up to its name. The forced-induction four-cylinder engine in the Sonic RS will be the only turbo in its segment, and it brings along a healthy 138 hp and 148 lb.-ft. of torque. Then, to get the most out of those ponies, Chevy offers two six-speed transmissions specifically engineered for the Sonic RS. The standard manual unit has all-new gear ratios as compared to the cog-swapper from the “regular” Sonic, while the available automatic transmission gains a unique final drive ratio.
To put that power on a solid footing, the Sonic RS wears a lowered, stiffened suspension with a MacPherson-strut design for the front, accented by coil springs and a stabilizer bar; that setup is then backed up by a semi-independent, torsion-beam compound link-type rear suspension with gas-charged shocks. Performance-tuned dampers are in the mix as well, as are four-wheel disc brakes featuring a four-channel anti-lock braking system—and electronic brake-force distribution.
The Sonic RS also boasts a full complement of style enhancers, inside and out, including:
  • A full body kit with new front fascia, grille, rear fascia, rear spoiler and rocker moldings
  • Redesigned fog lamps
  • A retuned and chrome-tipped exhaust system
  • Model-specific 17-inch five-spoke wheels
  • Plenty of RS badging
  • Front sport seats
  • A racing-inspired, flat-bottomed sport steering wheel
  • Aluminum sport pedals
  • RS-only instrument panel graphics
  • A sport gearshift knob on manually transmissioned models
  • Unique interior trim colors and four bold exterior shades—Victory Red,
  • Summit White, Cyber Gray Metallic and Black Granite Metallic
Also standard on the Sonic RS will be the Chevy MyLink infotainment system, which enables smartphone-based navigation, a seven-inch color touchscreen, and both Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio connectivity.
“The new Chevrolet Sonic RS pushes Chevrolet’s performance heritage in a new direction, for a new generation of drivers,” said Chris Perry, vice president of Global Chevrolet Marketing. “It takes the Sonic’s great design and latest connectivity features and combines them with a more performance-oriented look and feel.”
The 2013 Chevrolet Sonic RS is scheduled to go on sale later next year and will be built here in this country at GM’s Orion Assembly Center in Michigan.

Corvette Recognizes Its Heritage at 2011 SEMA Show

by Chevrolet in the News on November 1, 2011

The storied tradition of America’s top sports car will open another chapter at this year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) event, as two Corvette show cars, each honoring a different aspect of Corvette history, make their world premieres.
To help recognize the 30th annual “Corvettes at Carlisle” gathering—held each year in Carlisle, Pa., and one of the largest in North America—Chevy is introducing the Corvette Carlisle Blue Grand Sport Concept. Based on the Corvette Grand Sport, the show car shows off a new exterior color—the aptly named Carlisle Blue Metallic—as well as the first appearance of silver-painted Torque 2 wheels and full-length Pearl White racing stripes.
Also featured on the Carlisle Blue Grand Sport:
  • A hand-built LS3 6.2-liter V8 capable of up to 436 hp and 428 lb.-ft. of torque
  • Six-speed manual transmission
  • Magnetic Selective Ride Control
  • Gray six-piston brake calipers
  • Goodyear F1 Supercar Gen 2 tires
  • Dual-mode exhaust system
  • Cyber Gray headlamps
  • Premium nine-speaker Bose touchscreen sound system
  • Plenty of Genuine Corvette Accessories, including carbon-fiber ground effects and a GRAND SPORT hood blanket, ebony floor mats, console lid and racing pedal package
In addition, to help salute Ron Fellows’ 2011 induction to the National Corvette Museum Hall of Fame, Chevy has developed the perfect way to celebrate one of the winningest racers ever to get behind the wheel of its flagship sports car: The Corvette Z06 Ron Fellows “Hall of Fame” Tribute. The Tribute car takes the ultimate Corvette—the ultra-high-performance Z06—and gives it an aggressive Torch Red Exterior, accented by graphics that pay homage to Fellows’ many accomplishments for Corvette Racing. The car also benefits from:
  • Z06 Performance Package (Z07)
  • Magnetic Selective Ride Control
  • CFZ carbon-fiber package with splitter and rocker moldings
  • Carbon-fiber raised hood
  • Black headlamp housings and mirrors
  • Red brake calipers
  • Ebony interior with red stitching
  • Suede-trimmed steering wheel, shift knob, parking brake handle and armrests with red stitching
  • Special seats
  • Genuine Corvette Accessory Racing Pedal Package
And while neither of these SEMA Corvettes will be available to the public anytime soon, the 2012 lineup of production models is ready to roll at local dealerships across the country.

Chevy Cruze Cruises to Its Millionth Sale Zeigler Chevrolet Schaumburg

Chevy Cruze Cruises to Its Millionth Sale

by Chevrolet in the News

Consider it perfect timing: The same week that Chevrolet celebrated its first hundred years in business, it kicked off its second century in fine style by selling its millionth Chevy Cruze.
“I can’t think of a better birthday present,” said Chris Perry, vice president for global Chevrolet marketing and strategy. “Cruze’s combination of style, comfort, fuel-efficiency and safety is a hit across the globe. Our customers know a winner when they drive it.”
That’s certainly the case here in the U.S., where the Cruze remains the best-selling compact sedan in the country through October, with sales up more than 110 percent as compared to the car it replaced in Chevy’s lineup. Further, the Cruze—now sold in more than 100 countries around the world—is the fourth-best-selling car in its segment internationally, and in seventh place overall.
Also notable is that the Cruze has been very effective in attracting both new customers and those who are new to the Chevy brand. Chevrolet has grown its market share among the “millennial” generation by a full percentage point already in 2011, while 42 percent of this year’s U.S. Cruze buyers have traded in vehicles from outside the General Motors family. The No. 1 vehicle swapped for the Cruze: The Honda Civic.
This kind of success is sure to continue, too, as Chevy isn’t resting on its laurels going forward. For example, even though the Cruze already was the most fuel-efficient gas-only car in America when it was introduced, boasting EPA ratings of 28 mpg city/42 mpg highway/33 mpg combined with a manual transmission, Chevrolet engineers pushed the envelope further. As a result of numerous upgrades for the new model year, the 2012 Cruze Eco with an automatic transmission gained 2 mpg on the highway and 1 mpg in combined driving. Its new EPA ratings: 26 mpg city/39 mpg highway/31 mpg combined.
And that car, along with the entire 2012 Cruze lineup, is on sale at Chevrolet dealerships now.

Chevy Spark To Start A Driving Revolution Zeigler Chevrolet Schaumburg

New Chevy City Car to Spark a Driving Revolution

by Chevrolet in the News

Developed to appeal to both city drivers and first-time buyers, the all-new 2013 Chevy Spark is set to make its U.S. debut on Nov. 16 at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. It marks Chevy’s first foray into the city-car segment in this country, and the brand plans on setting the pace with the Spark, thanks to the car’s unique focus on both fun and features.
While boasting nimble dimensions specifically tailored for the urban environment, the Spark also provides a big list of benefits, including the kind of connectivity and infotainment functionality that’s usually reserved for larger cars. This includes the only seven-inch touchscreen in its class capable of displaying smartphone-based navigation, media and contacts for hands-free calling, as well as the Chevy MyLink system, which is standard on the Spark 1LT and 2LT models. Chevy MyLink offers access via a paired smartphone to apps like Pandora and Stitcher Internet radio, and it can even play videos and display digital photo albums when the Spark is parked.
“This level of infotainment and connectivity was unheard of in this segment, until now,” said Chris Perry, vice president, global Chevrolet marketing and strategy. “We know Spark buyers do not want to give up personalization just because they drive a smaller car.”
And while the Spark is no doubt a tidy package, it offers more cargo and passenger room than rivals like the Fiat 500, Scion iQ and Smart Fortwo, along with:
  • Standard air conditioning and power windows
  • A motorcycle-inspired gauge cluster
  • The segment’s only five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty
  • GM’s OnStar safety and security system
  • Ambient interior lighting
  • A peppy 1.2-liter I4 engine capable of 85 hp
  • 10 airbags
  • A wide range of personalization and customization features
  • Standard electronic traction control
  • Heated seats
  • Exterior finishes that range from Salsa, Jalapeno, Denim, Lemonade and Techno Pink to more traditional colors like Grey Area, Black Granite, Silver Ice and Summit White
In addition, the Spark showcases some surprisingly dramatic sheet metal, with its wheels pushed out to the corners for an aggressive stance. A key enabler of the Spark’s sporty looks? Chevy designers integrated its rear door handles into the C-pillar area to create an appearance that mimics that of a three-door “hot hatch”—while still allowing room inside for four occupants. The Spark’s integrated rear spoiler adds to the effect, and also improves aerodynamics for enhanced fuel efficiency.
Drivers who choose up-level Spark models can up the ante even further, with exterior details like matching rocker-panel moldings and chrome brightwork that accents the car’s beltline, liftgate handle, “poke-through” exhaust outlets and fog-lamp housings.
“Spark is for buyers who want much more than a ‘cute’ small car – they want a car that can be personalized, is dynamic and fashionable, and delivers a lot of value for the money,” added Perry. “Spark’s vibrant exterior and interior colors make a fashion statement, but it is also affordable, safe, maneuverable and very fuel-efficient.”
More information about the Spark, including pricing and EPA information, will be released closer to the car’s on-sale date in the summer of 2012.
